The Life of the Widower B.<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persname>Jr. Evans</persname> as Dictated by
himself. I was born at<placename> Prestei</placename><placename><placename>gn</placename> Radnorshire</placename> <date>May 3 1714</date>.
being in low Circumstances I went as a Boy into Service to do
Husbandry work, but had early impressions, ab.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi> my present & future
State, not without Temptations to make away w.<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> my Self having
at times<emotion> great A</emotion><add><emotion>n</emotion></add><emotion>xiety</emotion> ab.<hi rend="superscript">t</hi> my unsafe State. But our Sav.<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> has
graciously kept his hand over me & preserv'd me <add>in</add> many dangers
of Body & Soul. While in Service w.<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> <persname>Esq.</persname><hi rend="superscript"><persname>r</persname></hi><persname> Legge</persname> I was sent up a
Ladder to the pidgeon holes & got a fall, by which my Thigh joint
was put out & has remained so ever since. I then learnd the
Clothing <sic>Busyness</sic> <corr>Business</corr>, here my Concern for my Salvation <sic>encreasd</sic> <corr>increased</corr> &
I thought I had committed the Sin against the H. Ghost, but was much
comforted by hearing some Religious Books Read on the Subject.
One Parker from <placename>Lond.</placename><hi rend="superscript"><placename>n</placename></hi> & soon after the late <persname>B.</persname><hi rend="superscript"><persname>r</persname></hi><persname> Beaumon</persname> came &
preach'd in those parts, & when a <sic>Soicety</sic> <corr>Society</corr> was settled at <gap>thelgore</gap>, I was
also a Member thereof, I hereby got some knowledge of the Br.<hi rend="superscript">n</hi>, I went
on in a very legal course, but co.<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> find no Rest for my Soul, till once n[?]
<emotion>my distress </emotion>I <add>our Sav.</add><hi rend="superscript"><add>r</add></hi> manifested <add>himself</add> to my Soul, w.<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi> removed <emotion>all my Fears</emotion>, & I enjoy'd a
happy Intercourse w.<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> him for 3 Years. After <persname>Br. Beaumons</persname> Decease there
was different Doctrines Taught by the Methodists but <persname>Br Cennick</persname> having
preach'd there many were despos'd to adhere to the B.<hi rend="superscript">rn</hi> when I w.<hi rend="superscript">th</hi> sev.<hi rend="superscript">l</hi> more
Joind <persname>B.</persname><hi rend="superscript"><persname>r</persname></hi><persname> Roberts</persname> & sent a Written Invitation to the B.<hi rend="superscript">rn</hi>, w.<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi> was accepted of.
At a time when there was a difference in opinion whether we [sho?]?
pay our Devotion to our Sav.<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> in his Glorified State or in that of his
Suffrings upon w.<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi> I pray'd our Sav.<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> to make it clear to him <add>me</add>, upon w.<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi>
I
