his soul. He was able almost constantly
to attend our meetings, which proved a
great refreshment to him. He loved & was
beloved & respected in this Cong<hi rend="underline"><hi rend="superscript">n</hi></hi><hi rend="superscript"></hi> & walk-
ed among us as a venerable servant of
Christ, whose example was truly edifying.
In the night of <date>July 30</date><hi rend="underline"><hi rend="superscript"><date>th</date></hi></hi><hi rend="superscript"></hi> precisely a year
after his arrival here, he was seized with
a most painful strangury, which exposed
him to a burning furnace of affliction
for upwards of 3 weeks. From the begin-
ning of this illness he <emotion>ardently longed to
depart, & expressed himself only happy in
the idea that</emotion><emotion> he should close his earth-
ly career in the same place</emotion><emotion> where as a
Child he had received the same </emotion><add><emotion>first</emotion></add><emotion> impressions
of our Savior's love.</emotion> During the first days
of this afflicting disorder, the blessing of the
Lord was, at his request, imparted to him,
for his departure, & in a fervent prayer thanks
were expressed to our Savior for the grace
conferred upon him, & for the services
which he had been enabled to perform
in his house & family. At the close of this
prayer, he said immediately: Pray, oh pray
our Savior to forgive my trespasses, for
what have I done that stands not in
