ful communion with the best friend of
his soul. He was able almost constantly
to attend our meetings, which proved a
great refreshment to him. He loved & was
beloved & respected in this Congn & walk-
ed among us as a venerable servant of
Christ, whose example was truly edifying.
In the night of July 30th precisely a year
after his arrival here, he was seized with
a most painful strangury, which exposed
him to a burning furnace of affliction
for upwards of 3 weeks. From the begin-
ning of this illness he ardently longed to
depart, & expressed himself only happy in
the idea that
he should close his earth-
ly career in the same place
where as a
Child he had received the same
first impressions
of our Savior's love.
During the first days
of this afflicting disorder, the blessing of the
Lord was, at his request, imparted to him,
for his departure, & in a fervent prayer thanks
were expressed to our Savior for the grace
conferred upon him, & for the services
which he had been enabled to perform
in his house & family. At the close of this
prayer, he said immediately: Pray, oh pray
our Savior to forgive my trespasses, for
what have I done that stands not in
need of the cleansing of his blood. Ble-
