I may meet with in this here below,
to work together for my good, & be made
a means of preparing me in the ap-
pointed time to join the company of
redeemed sinners in thy presence, when
thou hast promised to wipe off all tears
for evermore. During our voyage to the
<placename>West Indies</placename> we had blessed experience, that
the Lord our Savior still can rebuke the
winds & seas at the cry of a disciple. We
spent an agreeable & blessed fortnight
with the Missionaries & the Negro Cong<hi rend="underline"><hi rend="superscript">n</hi></hi>
in <sic><placename>Barbadoes</placename></sic><placename>  </placename><corr><placename>Barbados</placename></corr>, & landed safely at <placename>Tobago</placename>,
grateful for all the mercies we had ex-
perienced. Here we found a small com-
pany of Negroes baptized by <persname>B</persname><hi rend="underline"><hi rend="superscript"><persname>r</persname></hi></hi><persname> Schirmer</persname>,
who with his wife had been here a year
before our arrival. This Mission had
been begun at the repealed & earnest
solicitations of our late much respected
friend <persname>M</persname><hi rend="underline"><hi rend="superscript"><persname>r</persname></hi></hi><persname> Hamilton</persname>, who had the salva-
tion of the Negroes much at heart, &
together with some proprietors of estates,
took the support of the Mission on him-
self. Some of these however had no other
