Liebisch</persname> who then held a blessed visitation
in the Cong<hi rend="underline"><hi rend="superscript">n</hi></hi> at <placename>Bath</placename>, & greatly encou-
raged us in our work. During this
<emotion>period of comfort</emotion> & prosperity, I receiv-
ed quite unexpectedly a call to go to the
Island of <placename>Tobago</placename>, to have the direction of
that Mission, & together with my wife
to assist in the labour among the Negroes.
Much as this proposal took us by surprise,
neither of us having had a particular im-
pulse for that part of the service, it
required due consideration, and I prayed
our Savior to divert my mind from every
