<emotion>increasing pleasure</emotion> as we gained the love &
confidence of the B<hi rend="underline"><hi rend="superscript">r</hi></hi><hi rend="superscript">n</hi> & S<hi rend="underline"><hi rend="superscript">r</hi></hi><hi rend="superscript">s</hi> more & more.
My greatest trial here arose from the build-
ing of a new Cong<hi rend="underline"><hi rend="superscript">n</hi></hi><hi rend="superscript"></hi> house & Chapel, as
I felt myself inadequate to the task,
Having put off the undertaking till it
became dangerous to sleep under the roof,
I ventured to begin the work in the name
of God our Savior, to whom I prayed for
insight & courage. Tho' my faith & pati-
ence were frequently put to the trial, I
saw at last both the House & Chapel
brought under cover, & then it pleased
our Savior to call me to be Labourer
of the Cong<hi rend="underline"><hi rend="superscript">n</hi></hi><hi rend="superscript"></hi> at <placename>Bath</placename>. <emotion>I felt much pain
in parting with this little flock, for we
loved each other tenderly,</emotion> & it pleased our
Savior to bless my ministry. I was con-
strained to bless his holy name for the
support he had given us, & for his being
a God who will abundantly pardon.
In <date>Dec</date><hi rend="underline"><hi rend="superscript"><date>r</date></hi></hi><hi rend="superscript"></hi><date> 1792</date> I and my dear wife arrived
in <placename>Bath</placename>, where we met with a most
cordial reception. The first year of my
service here, caused me <emotion>many groans,
sighs, & tears,</emotion> but praised be the name
