I have already observed that my removal
from <placename>Frome</placename> to <placename>London</placename> seemed to be overruled
by a Divine hand, as I scarecely knew why I
changed my situation. From my arrival in
<placename>London</placename> in the <date>spring of 1772</date> till the middle
of <date>1778</date> I was engaged in various mercan-
tile concerns on my own account, in wh<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi>
I experienced many trials & disappoint
ments which tended to wean my heart more
& more from the world. Soon after my ar-
rival in <placename>London</placename>, where I usually attended
the ministry of the Rev<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> <persname>Romaine</persname> at
<orgname>St. Ann's Blackfriars</orgname>, I became <add>acquainted</add> with the
B<hi rend="superscript">rn </hi> <persname>Benj. Latrobe</persname>, <persname>Geo. Franker</persname> & <persname>Hen</persname><hi rend="superscript"><persname>y</persname></hi><persname> Suleger</persname>
the latter being then Choir laborer of the S<hi rend="superscript">le</hi>
B<hi rend="superscript">rn</hi>. I now & then attended the public ser-
vice in <placename>Fetterlane</placename> chapel with real blessing
for my heart. Thro' the representations of my
X<hi rend="superscript">n</hi> friends & epecially of some in <sic>connex-
ion</sic> <corr>connection</corr> with the Colonist Methodists I had
imbibed strong prejudices against the
