departure from <placename>Bethlehem</placename>, the treasury and housekeeping for the
journey and also for the future Oeconimie in <placename>Wachovia</placename>. We arrived
in the bush on <date>17 November</date> in company with Bruder <persname>Nathanael and Gottlob
Königsdörfer</persname>. There we lived in great poverty for the first year,
but very happy in our housekeeping. On <date>7 September</date> in the year
<date>1757</date>, at the Married People's Festival in <placename>Bethlehem</placename>, I was married
to the Single Sister <persname>Anna Blum</persname>. To us were born five children, 3
sons and 2 daughters, and we lived happily together. After we
returned to <placename>Wachovia</placename> in <date>1758</date>, in the month of <date>October</date> I was
appointed magistrate, or justice, in <placename>Rowan County </placename>for <placename>Wachovia</placename>.

In the year <date>1769</date>, with wife and children, he returned from <placename>Wachovia</placename> to
<placename>Bethlehem</placename>, and after two years he moved here to <placename>Nazareth</placename> for the
purpose of looking after farming in Nazareth and Friedensthal, and
for some years served in the office of justice.Everyone knew him
as a man of peace and of upright character; he was honored and loved
by our Brothers and Sisters and by strangers. The occasion of his
homegoing was that on the <date>7th of this month </date>on his way to <placename>Hope</placename> he
had a severe fall from a horse at 11 o'clock in the morning, when
a dog ran out of a nearby house and frightened the horse so it shied,
and it is supposed that the saddle-girth was loosened and that he
fell on a short, sharp limb of a log. As he had served well in his
