I had unrigteously committed from the hour<br />
of my birth to the present moment, vewing my<br />
whole life past as one continued act of sin &amp;<br />
rebellion against the Lord, &amp; against His Christ.<br />
I did not presume to come to this thy ta-<br />
ble, O merciful Lord, trusting in my own righ-<br />
teousness, but in thy manifold &amp; great mercies.<br />
I was conscious that I saw not worthy to gather<br />
up the crumbs under thy table, &amp; could there-<br />
fore from my heart pray that knowledge<br />
grant me so to eat the flesh of thy dear Son, Jesus<br />
Christ, &amp; to drink his blood that my sinful body<br />
may be made clean by his body &amp; my soul<br />
washed <abbr>thro</abbr>&#39; His most precious blood: &amp; that<br />
I may evermore dwell in him &amp; he in me.<br />
Surely it will not be presumption in me<br />
to say, that I received a broken &amp; bleeding Saviour<br />
with a broken &amp; contrite heart. If my poor heart was<br />
pierced <abbr>thro</abbr>&#39; with many sorrows at the sight of my<br />
deplorable condition by nature, it was also much<br />
comforted &amp; rejoiced with a joy unspeakable &amp;<br />
full of glory, in being enabled with a humbling<br />
hand to lay <add>hold</add> of a Saviour, to view his wound<br />
as inflicted on <u>my</u> account, to see His most pre-<br />
cious hearts blood flowing to the last drop, <u>for me</u>!
