have caused most excruciating pain. Neither were these
all the Sufferings our Lord endured, the Scripture assures
us, that He suffered in his Soul also, and to all those
Sufferings he willingly submitted, that he might there
by reconcile us to God. He gave himself to be wounded
and terribly abused, to heal all my Diseases, and
give me rest eternally.
This requires of us a heart of Faith, we cannot send
up to our Lord and Saviour a more needful prayer than
this: that we beseech him to bestow upon us that true
Faith, wrought by himself in his Sufferings and death.
This faith is his own Gift, which he will bestow on all
them that heartily desire it of him. Without this
faith thou can never be enkindled in us, a genuine Love
to our  blessed Saviour, and without Faith it is im-
possible to please God, to bear good fruit, or to walk
worthy of the Gospel.
