having no spiritual guide. This nation was at that time
overspread with gross darkness.
the in eternal union, but supposing that to be unattainable
& must go quite alone without a friend into the unknown
regions. I well knew that all
on earth, must be cut in sunder by death. It was an
indissoluble Union which I wanted; & thus wishing for
what appeared to be an impossibility,
with sorrow & deep melancholy.
