called to an account for the deeds done
in the body. Therefore the dread of an
hereafter heightened my distress.
I
would have given the whole world could
my existence have ceased with the death
of the body. Had I in these years been
willing to disclose my situation I am
persuaded that I should have had it
much easier, but my heart was as it
were barred & bolted. In 1767 it pleas-
ed the Lord to call home to himself
my dear & valuable Mother. I was an
eye witness of her latter end, & beheld
her humble dependence on our Savior
& the resignation with which she
bore a long & tedious illness, with
much edification; & it frequently
excited the wish in me; O may my
latter end be like her's! The blessing
she imparted to me with her dying
lips, shortly before her end, was attend-
ed with such unction,
that I shall
never forget it. The day of her depar-
ture was a sorrowful day for me.
