departure from Bethlehem, the treasury and housekeeping for the

in the bush on 17 November in company with Bruder Nathanael and Gottlob 
Königsdörfer. There we lived in great poverty for the first year,
but very happy in our housekeeping. On 7 September in the year
1757, at the Married People's Festival in Bethlehem, I was married
to the Single Sister Anna Blum. To us were born five children, 3
sons and 2 daughters, and we lived happily together. After we
returned to Wachovia in 1758, in the month of October I was
appointed magistrate, or justice, in Rowan County for Wachovia.
This and the extension of housekeeping(management) in Bethabara
gave me much work, but my dear Lord helped me to accomplish it.
But when in the year 1762 Brother von Gemmern came to Wachovia as
future manager, I turned over to him my office and the treasury.
Now I want to spend the rest of my days more quietly. (So he wrote
himself).

In the year 1769, with wife and children, he returned from Wachovia to
Bethlehem, and after two years he moved here to Nazareth for the
purpose of looking after farming in Nazareth and Friedensthal, and
for some years served in the office of justice.Everyone knew him
as a man of peace and of upright character; he was honored and loved
by our Brothers and Sisters and by strangers. The occasion of his
homegoing was that on the 7th of this month on his way to Hope he
had a severe fall from a horse at 11 o'clock in the morning, when
a dog ran out of a nearby house and frightened the horse so it shied,
and it is supposed that the saddle-girth was loosened and that he
